The Wrong Words

Words: do come easily to me
It’s just that they’re the wrong ones, you see
And later, replaying conversations in my head,
I come across the ones I should have used instead
And knowing they were in there all along
Makes me wonder why they came out wrong
I’ll probably never need those self-same words again
And even if I do, will I remember then
To choose them and discard the rest?
To pick the ones which suit the situation best?
Ignore the words that hurt and anger spread –
The ones I should have kept inside, instead?
